Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Fancy Nancy in her attitude, Charles Schulz's Pigpen in her execution, this mother-daughter team's heroine has a charm all her own. Princess Pig hustles to get her home ready for her "big tea party," but she can't escape her species' reputation for messiness: "The dining room needs paint and plaster./ Princess Pig paints faster and faster./ She thinks it's fine—but what a disaster!/ Pretty Princess Pig." Luckily, as the foldout finale reveals, her friends don't mind a little mess. With their pastel palette and nimble linework, Williams's watercolors match this princess's verve. Ages 4–6. (May)
Children's Literature - Nicole Davis
Pretty Princess Pig is getting ready to have her friends come over to her house for a party. She has a lot to do before the party, so she put on her pretty yellow flowered party dress and got to work. Unfortunately for Pretty Princess Pig, everything that she tried to do turned into a disaster, from tearing the napkins to getting mud on her nose when she dug up the roses. The repetition and prose in the story are delightful. Everything about this book caters to a young princess, from the soft padded pink floral cover with glittery letters and flowers, to the yellow party dress, the folded napkins, and the tea party foods. The humorous twist at the end will be sure to amuse young children. The illustrations are simple, colorful (with a definite pink tint to them), and give meaning to the storyline. This picture book is sure to be a favorite among little princesses everywhere. Reviewer: Nicole Davis
