Overview

I don’t care what my cousin says; I am not the queen of impossible relationships. I mean, just because my last boyfriend tried to kill me and left a bit of a scar on my neck, then forced me to move across the country and legally change my name to Reese Randall to escape him, does not mean—

Oh, who am I kidding? For a freshman in college, I have to have the worst dating track record ever.

It’s no wonder love is the last thing on my mind when Mason Lowe enters my life. But the chemistry between us is like bam! Our connection defies logic. And he’s just so freaking hot. Being around him makes me feel more alive than I’ve ever felt before. I even like bickering with him. He could be my soul mate...except for one teeny tiny glitch.

He's a gigolo.

I don't normally read books in the NA genre but the description of this book completely won me over and upon turning the final page I was left in awe. Ms. Kage has created a story that is heartfelt and gut-wrenching with flashes of humor and suspense. The lead characters are delightful together with entertaining and witty banter that lights up every scene. Surrounding them is a memorable cast of secondary characters, some of which I liked and a few I didn't. The romantic journey between Reese and Mason slowly evolved as their friendship morphed into something more intense and fragile that was constantly put to the test due to outside forces. Ultimately all the tears and laughter culminated in an immensely satisfying conclusion. Reese is a wonderful heroine. She's smart, kind, and supportive which is surprising given her traumatic past. She's currently in hiding living under an assumed name courtesy of a psycho ex-boyfriend who physically and emotionally abused her and left her with a knife scare on her neck to remember him by. She lives in fear that he'll return but she never lets it show as she's a bubbly, energetic girl, not afraid to speak her mind. She's immediately attracted to Mason but knows they can never be more than friends since he's a gigolo. Since being without him is too painful she keeps things platonic (with a few slips here and there) and remains supportive of him in a community that treats him like a pariah. It's not until her life is again in jeopardy that she realizes how important truly living, and taking what makes life worth living, really is that her and Mason can finally start living for themselves. Mason is a hero truly worthy of the title as he's sacrificed everything for his family. He's allowed himself to be degraded, sacrificed his moral code, and denied himself happiness to keep the rent paid and meet his sister's medical needs. He's tired of being seen as an object and shunned by those same women who pay to bed him. He's immediately attracted to the joy and happiness Reese exudes but knows he's no good for her. He wants to commit himself to her as he's never been able to before but Fate intervenes once again and in another misguided attempt to save someone he cares about he's forced back into the life he's desperately trying to leave behind. Happiness can be fleeting and ultimately he realizes that he's worth more in a conclusion full of tears. The relationship between these two was delightful to read as their back and forth banter was at times funny, playful, but always full of sexual tension. Mason could always be counted on to say the most romantic things that would bring a tear to your eye and a smile to your face. Needless to say I couldn't get enough of him and his nobility. The secondary characters were just as intriguing. From Mason's sister Sarah who has Cerebral Palsy (which was depicted in a thoughtful and respectful manner) to his mother Dawn who was loving but flighty, I was left wanting to read more of them. There are two characters though that I found immensely irritating and who took away some of my enjoyment of the story. Mason's landlady Mrs. Garrison, who introduced him to this lifestyle, was emotionally grasping and manipulative. She used his love for Reese against him and took away his brief glimpse of happiness. Reese's cousin Eva was also an annoying judgemental shrew who purported to be her friend but her actions spoke differently as her dislike of

“His dark, wavy hair called to me-Reese, Reese! Run your fingers through my wild, gorgeous, untamed mane. It did. For real.” Okay…..I died laughing, a few times actually, reading this book. Like almost couldn’t breath, tears in my eyes laughing. When I finished the book, I started reading the highlights to my husband. I NEVER read excerpts to my husband, he is not a reader, so he doesn’t understand, but I made him listen and even he chuckled! I have never loved a female character in a book the way I love Reese. I know a lot of the ladies who read the romance novels always mention their book boyfriend….yah, she is my book girlfriend. I would so want her as a best friend. She is hilarious and crazy and I love Linda Kage for creating my absolute favorite character ever! Reese is on the run from her crazy, stalker ex-boyfriend. She is living with her aunt and uncle while attending community college in Florida. It is here that her eyes meet Mason Lowe. Following their heated eye contact, Reese learns from her cousin Eva that he is rumored to be a gigolo! When Reese gets a babysitting gig to make some extra money she quickly learns that she will be babysitting Mason’s younger sister who has cerebral palsy. It is at this point that the reader is taken on the whirlwind that is Mason and Reese! The banter between the two of them is comical and the love story is so sweet!

Swoon worthy gigalo: "Every woman treats me that way, Reese. I'm not a person to them. I'm just...a good time or something vile to be avoided at all costs. And then you came along and you... you hugged me. You are the first person who sees me, Mason not sex for sale. And that kind of compassion is not a sign of a selfish person. At all." I loved this book from the first word until the last. The plot was fresh and captivating. The characters were charming and witty. It was a sweet, heart-warming story with lots of humor thrown in. It just was one of those books that make you feel good! If you like light-hearted, romantic, funny, sweet, HEA books ... Then this one is for YOU!!!

I really liked this book. The female lead got alittle annoying though, toward the end - not as funny as she thought she was. I think l would have felt more of an impact at the end if she had taken some situations more seriously. Over all good story, but lost some thrill near the conclusion. S.A.K.

Once again, Linda Kage has written a story that pulled me in, invested me in her characters, and left me deeply satisfied at the end. This was an awesome story. I've always loved Linda's books, but she has reached a new level as an author with this foray into the New Adult genre. She is an amazing author with an amazing story to tell. I loved both of these characters so much. From the first page, they both got into my heart so thoroughly that they seemed real. I felt so bad for how tormented Mason is by what he has to do in order to help his family. It was truly heartbreaking. You would think that a guy who does what he does would really be living it up... that he'd be into it and loving it. But Linda Kage presents this in such a way that you can truly understand that even a guy in this situation would feel used and suffocated by his actions. Reese's ability to overcome what she's been through and still maintain such sweetness was amazing. She was an inspiring character. How gently and sweetly she cares for Mason speaks so perfectly to her personality, and how carefully she treats him is so sweet. It just made you love her all the more, as most girls would not be able to deal with his secrets the way she does. She's an amazing character who loves him despite his flaws and what he does. And her interactions with his sister prove further what a great soul she has. This story had a lovely romance. It wasn't perfect, as there were stumbling blocks along the way, but it was poignant. The writing sucked me in at once, and I devoured this book so quickly, and after reaching the end, I immediately wanted to go back and do it again. I can't point to a single flaw in this book. Everything came together so well to create a perfect story for me. I love Linda Kage, and I love this book!
