I loved this book. When the book opens up with a likable character who catches the eyes of a younger man, I was hooked. Later when they meet up again and mysterious behavior is apparent, I was intrigued. When some bad times happened, I mourned. I felt all of the emotions with the characters. By the end of the story, there was growth in the characters, which is something I ALWAYS look for, but one of them went though an event that changed him SO much that I was worried that he wasn’t going to be the same person anymore. The author dealt with that brilliantly. Of course there was changes, but the bones of the character was still there. Really well done. It is a talent that I admire in an author. It doesn’t seem to be something that would be hard to do and you never even notice when this is done properly. When you do notice this is when it is done awfully. Never fear. Subtly is throughout this story.
My one draw back on this book was how easily everything worked out. It was resolved within a few pages and I think that the characters themselves would have put up more of a fight. But it was true love, maybe that takes the fight right out of someone. Makes it easier to make the right decision. I will definitely be reading this book again. I just know I missed a level of the characters the first couple times I read it.
Possible spoiler: WARNING — There is non consensual sex. It involves on of the main characters. Please be aware of that as you are reading this book as they hold nothing back in their descriptions.

This was a quick read so I am going to do a quick review of it. I liked this book. Wes is in a situation and is pretty much trapped. He isn't willing to let go of his dreams and is willing to make some sacrifices to get them. Unfortunately, that plan goes awry and he ends up in a bad place.
Enter Connor, the professor that Wes could have loved...if he hadn't been secretly hired and paid to seduce him. They have so much in common and are so good together. When Connor realizes what is happening to Wes, he can't stand by and just let it happen, no matter how much it hurts to get involved with the situation.
There's a lot of emotion to this book and Cat Grant wrote it superbly well. Like I said, it's a quick read, but it had just the perfect depth of story to make it completely enjoyable. I liked getting to know these two characters.

This story is powerful and disturbing. The most disturbing thing is that it seems to totally real and possible. It hurts to think how many of are smartest young people are having to put themselves at risk to try and obtain their dreams and how condemned by others they must feel. This story has lots of dark and painful issues I'm so thankful that Conner was willing to put his feelings first not just in acceptance but to be willing be patient and not give up on love. Was this review helpful?
