Pride 1998

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Bradley Torreano
You would be hard-pressed to find a more optimistic album than Pride 1998, a collection of self-love dance anthems. The songs are simplistic ditties about enjoying life, doing what you want to do, and being happy with the way life deals out the cards. It almost goes without saying that pessimists should avoid this like the plague, but anyone looking for a happy-go-lucky dance album to start their day should hunt this down.

While Disc 1 has one or two good songs, e.g. :
"Make Your Own Kind Of Music" [Yum Club Mix] - a lovely update... and "I Am What I Am" [Club Mix] - another great update that adds a serious bass that emphasizes the gravitas of this classic anthem...
the whole of the first disc tends to suffer from some lackluster remakes. Normally, I'm on board with a familiar song presented with a twist, but  by track #6 - "Love Is In The Air" [Extended Mix] ...an ok mix-
I start to realize that the beat is not up to my personal dance standards. It then drags on into "Stand By Your Man" [Vocal Club Mix], followed by the drab "Careless Whispers" [12" Pop'd Up Mix] - a song that
no amount of remix/update/remake can fix. Disc One finally comes to the next to last track, the Almost-But-Not-Quite-Redeeming "Love So Strong" [Brothers In Rhythm Experience] that clocks in at a whopping
11 minutes and 57 seconds. It's a little 'house-ey', but the strings that extend the middle are one of my favorite parts of this disc.
Now, Disc Two, is another matter entirely! I have to say that it is practically the opposite of the first disc. It gets to the BANG in about a minute and a half with the infectiously bouncy "Daylight" - another one
that just sneaks in at a hair over 11 minutes. it then seamlessly melds into "You're Beautiful" [A1 Side Mix], a personal fave. Track 4, "The Promise" [Space Brothers Mix],  Track 5, "Love U More" [Jimmy Gomez Mix] all
have that X FACTOR that makes ya wanna dance. the other standouts are " Floribunda" [Big C Remix] and "Earthbeat" [David Morales Mix].
