Editorial Reviews

From The Critics
Reviewer: Val Y. Vogt, MD (University of Tennessee at Memphis College of Medicine)
Description: This first edition is an easy-to-read, comprehensive primary care handbook for the obstetrician/gynecologist. Algorithms reinforce the text throughout the chapters.
Purpose: It is a valuable resource for obstetricians/gynecologists. The obstetrician/gynecologist who is experienced in primary care as well as those just starting to add primary care to their practice will appreciate this easily understandable handbook. The most common primary care issues are discussed. The diagnosis, management, and treatment of each issue is thoroughly discussed.
Audience: The primary care issues covered provide an excellent reference for the practicing obstetrician/gynecologist. The chapters allow the reader to refer to a specific subject matter easily. The extensive use of algorithms complement the text.
Features: This handbook is easy to read. The chapters are concise, yet thorough. The reader can easily skip to a specific answer to a question without reading the entire chapter. The flow of the chapters are logical with sufficient diagrams and algorithms. The use of color photographs specifically for dermatologic problems is an illustration of the quality of the handbook. Suggested reading lists enhance each chapter.
Assessment: This is a worthwhile contribution to the educational resources for medical students, obstetrician/gynecologist residents, and practicing obstetricians/gynecologists. Since primary care has been emphasized in the clinical practice for obstetricians/gynecologists recently, a handbook that provides easily accessed information is essential.
