This is a very interesting book which describes in remarkable detail various primitive crafts and survival techniques. The skills discussed range from making blades and axes from stone to various methods of primitive cooking. All of the topics covered are described in sufficient detail to be useful. There are sections on primitive basket making and pottery as well as blowgun making and stalking. After reading this book I was left with both a profound admiration for our primitive ancestors as well as some potentially useful newfound knowledge. Since many of the techniques described were utilized by Native Americans this book will be enjoyed by students of this subject as well as by Boy/Girl Scouts who will find many sections which they can utilize on camping trips. This book will also be enjoyed by fans of shows such as ¿Man vs. Wild¿ and should be required reading for anyone planning to compete on ¿Survivor¿.

This book would be better served if it was titled "Basket Weaving and One or Two Other Things." It's easy to see the passions of the authors is not so much survival skills or any other craft save basket making. There are several chapters on making different baskets with plenty of images. Yet they only briefly touch on subjects such as traps and fire starting and display truly inferior images as if these subjects are so easy to perform that no additional images are needed. If you want to weave baskets, this is the book for you!
