Kirkus Reviews
Jules's fourth Ziz book continues her versions of Midrash stories featuring the giant bird of Jewish mythology. The Ziz is summoned by the wise King Solomon of Israel for a critical job-keeping the Princess Magda company in her lonely tower. Locked up to protect her "from marrying the wrong man," Magda is thrilled when her wondrous new friend flies her across the world to see animals of the jungle, the pyramids of Egypt and the penguins in the South Pole. Returning from one of these trips they swoop down to save a young scribe falling off a cliff. The princess loves his books; the scribe loves her eyes. Jealous and worried, the Ziz soon separates them, which makes the Princess enormously unhappy. But the King, seeking happiness for his child, approves the relationship and unites them in marriage. Kahn's watercolor scenes, which feature a goofy, green-eyed bird with a bright yellow body and oversized red wings, drive the humor in this adequate tale. (Picture book. 4-10)

The team of Author Jacqueline Jules and Illustrator Katherine Janus Kahn has another success in this fourth story in a series about the Ziz, a gigantic bird-like creature taken from Jewish folklore. BY: Gayle Jacobson-Huset ¿ Managing Editor Stories for Children Magazine King Solomon orders the Ziz to entertain his daughter, Magda. The king keeps her in a tower so she doesn't meet and marry the wrong man. The princess is bored, so the Ziz whisks her away from the tower and takes her on a trip around the world. They rescue a young man falling off a cliff. The man and the princess start to fall in love, and the Ziz gets jealous. He takes the Princess for more trips and just travels in circles so the Princess will never see the young man again. Does the Princess ever figure out what the Ziz is up to? You'll just have to read this fun book to find out. I give this book a high five for a great storyline and terrific illustrations. Ladies, you have another sure-winner here. If you want your kids to have fun and let their imaginations soar, this is the book for them (as are the other stories about the Ziz).
