Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
Frannie has her dream come true when she becomes principal for a day, but her ideas of being principal make it an unusual day for everyone at school. Frannie tells the story of how it all happened using lots of words that she makes up, such as "sharpier, stumpified, and geniusal." She writes a heartfelt composition that wins her the honor. Since she has a "knack for getting too curious for her own good," the principal tells her that she must follow the tasks he gives her. If she gets "three strikes," she will be out of her job as principal. Due to her ambitious and inquisitive personality, she quickly messes up and gets two strikes. The biggest and final strike against her happens when she pulls the fire alarm. She confesses that she thought it was supposed to be pulled when the principal fires a teacher, and she couldn't help showing off to her friends. The principal leads her in finding a suitable punishment for herself, and she goes even further to try to make things right. Children should enjoy the easy humor of the story and the personality of this feisty character who causes mishaps in the familiar school setting. There are some cute black and white illustrations throughout the book. The book is part of the "Frankly Frannie" series. Reviewer: Vicki Foote
