Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Keith W. Merrill, MD (University of Tennessee at Memphis College of Medicine)
Description: This book discusses the many facets of medical treatment in pregnancy, covering the multiple diseases and conditions that can affect a pregnancy. At the very end is a wonderful section on critical care, trauma, and surgery in pregnancy.
Purpose: It is intended to help obstetrician's/gynecologists understand the myriad of problems that can confront them and enable them to feel comfortable in dealing with those difficulties in their patients. It has proven to be not only needed but essential in dealing with various situations and treatments in the pregnant patient.
Audience: This book is appropriate for all levels, from the student to practitioner, to teach about dealing with primary care issues in the pregnant patient. It can benefit all specialties. The contributors have presented their subjects effectively. Using this information, the audience can come to understand clinical dilemmas that can take place in different fields.
Features: The table of contents is well organized. This enabled me to enjoy reading and absorbing information. The illustrations were exceptional and quite useful.
Assessment: This is an excellent review of many topics. It was easier to understand than many other previous works. As stated in the preface, this is the third edition with added material. I can only concur that this should provide an even greater education experience than the second edition.
