Jason Beaird has compiled a lovely book detailing the thinking process that goes into creating an interesting and eye catching web page/site. The book has been updated in the new 3rd edition and I highly recommend it whether you are studying web design in school or not. Easy to read and lovely to look at!

One of the few books that really goes in to the visual aspects of web design, not the coding or technical aspects.

Are you squeamish about choosing web design colors? If you are, then this book is for you! Author Jason Beaird, has done an outstanding job of writing the second edition of a book about traditional graphic design theory as it applies to today¿s website development industry. Beaird, kicks off the design process by investigating possible page components. Next, the author delves into both the aesthetic and scientific aspects of color theory. Next, he shows you how to use points, lines, and shapes to communicate and support your site¿s message on a number of levels. Then, he dives beneath the surface by exploring the basics of the letterform, and investigating various typeface distinctions. Finally, the author discusses what we should look for in the visual elements that we use on our pages, and how to locate sources of legitimate supporting imagery. The goal of this most excellent book is simple: to present what the author knows about designing for the Web in a way that anyone can understand and apply. More importantly, it provides a design primer and relevant examples that will benefit readers at any level.
