Overview

Adapted from Nivaldo J. Tro’s best-selling general chemistry book, Principles of Chemistry: A Molecular Approach focuses exclusively on the core concepts of general chemistry without sacrificing depth or relevance. Tro's unprecedented two- and three-column problem-solving approach is used throughout to give students sufficient practice in this fundamental skill. A unique integration of macroscopic, molecular, and symbolic illustrations helps students to visualize the various dimensions of chemistry; Tro’s engaging writing style captures student’s attention with relevant applications. The Second Edition offers a wealth of new and revised problems, approximately 50 new conceptual connections, an updated art program throughout, and is available with MasteringChemistry®, the most advanced online tutorial and assessment program available.

Meet the Author

Nivaldo Tro is a Professor of Chemistry at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, where he has been a faculty member since 1990. He received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Stanford University for work on developing and using optical techniques to study the adsorption and desorption of molecules to and from surfaces in ultrahigh vacuum. He then went on to the University of California at Berkeley, where he did postdoctoral research on ultrafast reaction dynamics in solution. Since coming to Westmont, Professor Tro has been awarded grants from the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund, from Research Corporation, and from the National Science Foundation to study the dynamics of various processes occurring in thin adlayer films adsorbed on dielectric surfaces. He has been honored as Westmont's outstanding teacher of the year three times and has also received the college's outstanding researcher of the year award. Professor Tro lives in Santa Barbara with his wife, Ann, and their four children, Michael, Ali, Kyle, and Kaden. In his leisure time, Professor Tro enjoys surfing, mountain biking, being outdoors with his family, and reading good books to his children.

    Handy-*disclaimer*

This is the first time I have had eTextbooks. I was pretty disappointed when I found out I couldn't access my book from my iPad, which is the whole reason I got it. There needs to be a HUGE disclaimer somewhere before or at checkout that says you can't view your book anywhere but a computer. It's inconvenient for me because I have a desktop and not enough money to buy a hard copy after purchasing the eTextbook. And if there were a disclaimer, I didn't see it, and most likely I wasn't the first nor with I be the last. Sad day.
