Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

More than a third of American women knit or crochet and by evidence, that percentage is growing. For millions of these crafters, what began as a hobby has become a constant pleasure or passion. For those knitters, this 700-page standard-setter qualifies as a reference book that can immeasurably enhance their experience—and their expertise. Totally rewritten and newly illustrated, June Hemmons Hiatt's The Principles of Knitting is far different and much superior to the edition published a quarter century ago, which even then was hailed as the definitive book on the subject. The knitting gift of the year.

Library Journal
This is a comprehensive handbook for the knitter who wants to know the ``whys'' as well as the ``hows'' of hand-knitted fabric construction. Included are chapters on stitch formation, fabric construction, pattern design, project planning, and decorative work (e.g., multi-color knitting, inlay, and needlework embellishment). Superior organization, layout, indexing, and the numerous illustrations add to the value of this work as a basic knitting reference, but the beginning knitter may be intimidated by the sheer bulk of material presented--including, for example, 33 different methods for casting on stitches. A less intimidating introduction to the craft is Maggie Righetti's Knitting in Plain English ( LJ 3/15/86). Highly recommended for libraries collecting in this area.-- Janice Zlendich, California State Univ. Lib., Fullerton

    CLASSIC MUST HAVE !!

I'm a noob in the great world of knitting so I'd never heard of this gem until my Mom mentioned it last week. Actually, 10yrs ago, you could've given me the best sewing machine & knitting tools $$ could buy...I'd be kicking myself now wishing I'd kept or put it all to use! I've always preferred handmade over the rest & loved designing my own things-just not making! I have an 8y/o Daughter who inherited (x2) our big imaginations & love of crafts. We're both fresh beginners w/knitting though & can't wait to own this wonderful book. It was total chance that I found it had been revised, as I stumbled upon it's AD while looking at a home decor blog.

    The Principles of Knitting

I know that this is like the Bible of Knitting. Have been waiting the longest time for the reprint/updated book to come out and it has not.
I was told over a year and a half ago that it would be in the stores.
Maybe if everyone stayed on top of Simon and Schuster it might happen.

I am not interested in the other authors, I have numerous books on knitting but none are like the The Principles of Knitting.... June Hemmons Hiatt

    A reviewer

I purchased this book in 1989 and it is a great book along with Elizabeth Zimmerman. This book gives great explanations. I use this book all of the time along with EZ. I heard that they are going to reprint this. Everyone should have a copy, if at all possible.
