I have been a fan of Jeff Cooper's work for years. This short book or "pamphlet" as he refers to it, deals with the mental aspects of situational awareness and six other mindsets that are critical to the safety of ourselves and our loved ones. He speaks of the attitudes that must be internalized in order to be prepared for and sucessfully respond to potentially dangerous encounters. For those of us that have been aware of personal defence and overall preparedness it is a great refresher. For those new to the concept, it is a must read. Cooper's precepts have become the foundation of all modern defence instruction, books, magazine articles and firearm schools. In addition to his numerous books, Mr. Cooper was the founder of the Gunsite Academy in Arizona and is responsible for the concept of the Scout rifle which is finally being produced by Ruger Firearms and designed in part by Mr. Ed Head of the Gunsite Academy.

Poorly proof read with missing sentences, words, maybe paragraphs. Information dated. Only us old guys remember Manson. The principles cited by Mr. Cooper are valid, but could be put on a wallet card at less expense. Touted as a 'classic' - I was very disappointed.

When I first ordered this book, I didn't know it only had 44 pages and I paid over $11.00 for it. When I open the box it came in and saw how thin the book was, I immediately thought that I'd return it to the local B & N for a refund. However, upon reading the book, I discovered a wealth of info as discribed by the previous review. The book is worth, well it is priceless, and a must read for everyone who thinks about security for themselves or their families. I speak from expericence as a retired police officer from a large metro area police dept. in Colo. A great read with lots to think about. Worth every cent I paid for it!! YOU CAN'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S THICKNESS... THE BEST 44 EVER.

Jeff Cooper's 'Principles of Personal Defense' will mentally prepare you to handle any violent situation that you may have to face. Today's world now forces ordinary people to seriously consider and prepare for their own safety, and this book will help you to develop the proper mindset needed to successfully survive any situation that you may encounter. This small work will also benefit those in law enforcement and the military by reaffirming those principles necessary to 'stay safe' in the performance of their duties. 'Principles of Personal Defense' is a must read for those who are serious about protecting themselves and those they love.
