Overview

Fate rarely obeys the will of men...or women.

Learning she is bound on the next tide to marry a Caribbean commissioner, Lorena St. John is devastated. Yet she must obey her iron-handed stepfather, or her beloved sisters will suffer the consequences.

She arrives in Bermuda with hope, but finds her betrothed is a slave master who views her as chattel. Defiance gets her locked out of his house, vulnerable to the harsh tropical sun-and a band of desperate men.

Captain Warren Rawlins isn't above using Lorena as a shield to rescue his brothers from the British fortress. Once aboard his ship, though, he finds Lorena is no fragile English bloom. She's a delectable handful with a sharp sense of honor-and an even sharper tongue.

Despite her initial outrage, Lorena finds herself softening toward the rough crew of the Huntress who have more nobility than a thousand "proper" gentlemen. And its captain finds himself fighting a losing battle against the need to take her in his arms, propriety be damned.

All too soon Boston Harbor looms, but the danger isn't past. Warren once again takes to the sea to fight for the woman he loves. Winner takes all...

Meet the Author

Writing was something I did as a teen for my younger brothers. My father used to take us on road trips and I would concoct stories as the miles went by. But it wasn’t until a few years ago that my first book, Dream Shadow, showed up in my head.
Historical costuming has been my other true love, which accounts for my recent run of historical novels.
My family and I enjoy historical reenactment. My sons are the only boys in town who think outgrowing their top hats is cause for alarm.

    Great read!

I recently started reading mary wine books. I really enjoy her writing. In this book wallace a merchant and sea captain meets lorena and the romance is strong. I liked the storyline, but would have liked to see them get married much sooner. I recommend this book!

    Loved it

No surprise there. I have read three other books by Mary Wine and I have loved them all. I love that she makes all of her heroines strong. By the way, synopsis has her name wrong, her name is Lorena not Janessa. So if you like historical romance with strong women, handsome men and some laughs in between this is for you.

Mary Wine does NOT disappoint. I LOVE how action packed the book is and how strong and independant Lorena is. I have read a lot her books and once I start I cannot put her books down. Well done Ms Wine another winner.
