So far I'm only 113 pages in and have found a couple of examples that will not compile at all. The helloworld example they create to call the different intents using a menu is the one I'm on now that is broke. I have tried in the newest 2.2, and an old version, 1.5, and checked the Android Developer documentation. They call methods that do not exist, and if they created the method, they don't show the source or offer their source code with the book. I can get the code to work since I've been coding for over 7 years in Java but someone without prior coding experience and novice programmers will not be able to learn properly from those examples. So far though it has only been a couple of examples, not a lot, but then again, the ones that definitely work are the examples from Google. I will update this as I read through the book.

I bough Pro Android 2 together with Beginning Android 2. The first thing to notice is that Pro is about double the size of Beginning. Pro describes advanced features in greater detail. For example Beginning has 11 pages on resources while Pro gives you 66. But beware: Pro does not mention <string-arrays>. So Pro is for you if you know a little on Android programming but want more more in depth knowledge. As it is I frequently find myself looking up a specific in both books.

I am a firm believer in bootstrapping. I want to be up and coding in a new language as fast as possible. On that front especially this book delivers! They take the time to walk you through everything from environment setup to animation. No matter what kind of Android app you want to build, this book is your springboard. Reasonable depth, and impressive breadth, this one's a winner!
