Overview

What if First Contact doesn't come the way we expect it-or with the sort of aliens we expect?
When every side has secrets within secrets to keep, how is anyone supposed to know the truth-or live to tell about it? Is what the Prospector probe reported the greatest discovery of all time ... or the biggest hoax?
Bob Hanson, the chief scientist of a major aerospace corporation, has made an incredible discovery. Video images from the space probe he himself had created reveal a wrecked alien spacecraft adrift in the Asteroid Belt. The military enthusiastically embraces an investigation of the extraterrestrials, remarkably indifferent to the inconsistencies that begin to emerge in the data. It's almost as though someone doesn't want the gaps in the story to be exposed....
Undeterred, Hanson keeps digging-and finds much more than he had ever bargained for. As the mystery deepens, only one thing remains certain: His unknown opponents play for keeps.

He has been writing full-time since 2004 and his novels run the gamut from technothrillers, like Small Miracles, to traditional SF, like the InterstellarNet series, to, with Larry Niven, the grand space epic Fleet of Worlds series of Ringworld prequels.

Ed’s short fiction has appeared in anthologies, two collections, and many of the usual SF magazines. He also writes the occasional nonfiction technology article.

Lerner lives in Virginia with his wife, Ruth.
