Can Samantha Edwards Reach Out to Jack Hanson?

This is the first of SSE series *Family Business* and Ms Mallery has given us a good look at the Hansons. This is the eldest son's story. Jack is a very successful criminal lawyer in Chicago but his father has died and left his business, Hanson Media Group, without a CEO -- Jack never wanted to be in the family business! Jack takes a 3 month leave from his law firm and works to keep the business on an even keel. We're introduced to Jack's border collie Charlie and of course we love him right away. His stepmother gives him a short list of people to hire and get the business running smoothly and find someone to be the CEO. On this list is his grad school partner Samantha Edwards-they both have an MBA and had helped each other get it. They do have a little history but both have been hurt by the opposite sex since grad school 10 years ago. Samantha has been working in NYC since graduating and now wants to start over and Chicago seems to be the place. Jack hires Samantha to develop an Internet site for the group which she does with her great employees in her nontraditional style. This is their story of overcoming the hurt and anger of their previous relationships. I loved this book! Jack and Samantha are wonderful complex characters. Ms Mallery writes such good characters!

    Liked Both Stories

I love Susan Mallery and I enjoyed this story of 150 pages (actually a Novella)... BUY, just when I thought it was going to take off it ended... I was very disappointed... The second story by Sarah Mayberry was also very good and I would recommend both... Have to say again - I hate abrupt endings...

I was very disappointed in this The Prodigal Son because it ended so abruptly. The will was discussed but never read, the brothers were never found, etc. Is there going to be a sequel?

I was a little disappointed in this book as it left you sort of hanging at the end. I would have liked closure. I find though that happens often when another author has a story included with another author. I didn't care for Susan Mayberry's book at all and didn't finish it.

    I LOVED IT!

It refers to both books. I enjoyed the humor, tenderness, and romance exhibited by both authors. The stories were a bit short, but interesting. I look forward to reading more by these authors and about the characters featured in the books. LA-TXN

    Not her best

Great story that was not explored thoroughly. The book was entirely too short to put it in the category of a must read. The ending deemed to be condensed into two paragraphs. Not her typical good read.

Good read altho this story ended with questions unanswered.  If there are subsequent stories with Jack's two brother those questions may be answered.  The bonus book by Sarah Hayberry was delightful and a  great introduction for me to Ms Mayberry.  Nice humor mixed in.  I have since acquired 3 more of Ms Mayberry's books and am enjoying the first of those.  Recommend her.
