Having purchased EVERY single PHP book out there - and read through and used all of them - this one is by far the best. as for a comprehensive professional resource - this one is my pick.

I've got the, I suppose more recent, 2002 version of this book, 'Professional PHP4', with now 11 cheesy developers photos staring at you, and would thoroughly recommend it.

I have been working with PHP for about 5 months now, but due to time pressures haven't had any real time for training. Up till now I have learned from php.net and code snippets. I have just got this book, and find it fantastic. It makes so much sense, and ties all of the odds and ends I've learned so far together. Definitely recommended!

I have read lots of programming books, and most of the time the are all just 'fluff'. This book gets strait to the point and never strays!!! This book covers almost everything, and also shows different programming styles from five different authors. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn PHP.

This is a VERY complete guide to PHP and is written at a level a novice can unterstand and the most advanced PHP programmers will not get bored reading this book.

This book is good for those who have an entry or intermediate level of experience in programming and who are wanting to learn about PHP. Hope they come out with a second more advanced edition, when I am done with this one.

This book covers it all - the introduction to the PHP language, to relational databases like MySQL, to directories (LDAP) and to the cool XML stuff. Definitive: Buy it!
