I highly recommend this book which explain a lot of things like the funcionallity of the sensors, I/O modules, timers, counters, latch outputs etc. is really good for beginners and some medium advance students, the examples and the problems are according with the material described in each chapter. My only suggestion to the author is to add more information about the R6 file how it works? where is controlled or accessed etc. and if this book is trying to meet the expectations for more advance students I think he need to include another chapter for control motion which is a very important subject for people like me who want more information about the PLC capabilities. in general this is a really good book.

I found this volume to be extremely useful. I design and build simple to medium complexity reactor systems, which utilize a wide range of I/O. However, programming of the reactor control systems is left to an engineering group, which introduces delays in building and implementing my systems. I wanted to learn PLCs and ladder logic so I could handle the programming of the simpler systems myself. Although the text is quite specific to Allen-Bradley systems, I have found it easy to adapt the knowledge learned in this text to three other systems (Unitronics, Click, and Omron) that are currently used in-house at my company. One minor complaint would be the layout with respect to examples that need to be worked by the reader. Sometimes the flow of text is interrupted by the examples, and the actual learning to work the problem is physically presented after the example. This is very minor (nit-picky, really) - and it's just my opinion. Highly recommended text.
