Meet the Author

Pamela B. Childers, Caldwell Chair of Composition at the McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, directs the writing center and the writing-across-the-curriculum program. A former public school English teacher, Dr. Childers has published numerous articles and chapters, and coedited Programs and Practices: Writing Across the Secondary School Curriculum (Boynton/Cook, 1194, with Anne Ruggles Gere and Art Young). She also is past president of the National Writing Centers Association.

Anne Ruggles Gere is Gertrude Buck Collegiate Professor at the University of Michigan, where she directs the Sweetland Center for Writing and serves as co-chair of the Ph.D. in English and Education. An associate director of the Oakland Writing Project, she has a long history with the NWP. Her most recent book for teachers is Textual Complexity: Supporting Student Readers, an e-book from NCTE.

Art Young is Campbell Chair in Technical Communication, Professor of English, and Professor of Engineering at Clemson University. In addition to coordinating Clemson's writing across the curriculum program, he teaches courses in composition theory and pedagogy, technical writing, and Victorian literature. Young serves as a consultant and WAC workshop director to over fifty schools and colleges.
