The seventh International Congress on Obesity held in to ronto, Canada, August 1994, was an important milestone in the annals o f obesity research because it focused on the causes, the complications and the treatment and prevention of this disorder. It was unique beca use research spanned a range of scientific inquiry from cellular biolo gy to population issues. Atempts to reverse the epidemic of over-nutri tion have not been successful but pursuit of understanding the underly ing mechanisms and consequences of obesity are unremitting.
