Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Otters are animals that can dive up to 60 feet under water and hold their breath for up to four minutes. "Brain Boosters" are small colorful sections throughout the book that contain interesting facts and information such as this about the Otters. As part of the "Zoo Life" series, this educational book talks about the zoo life of baby otters that were born in the St. Louis Zoo. The book follows the babies as they grow up to adulthood. It has a "chapter" on the parents of the babies, the zoo crew, the parts of the animal that helps it to adapt to his environment, and other issues that the animals face. The photographs show the babies from the time they are eight weeks old until they are fully-grown. These realistic pictures show the animals at play in the snow, learning to swim, eating, and doing a variety of other activities. This series would be useful in a science library of an elementary or middle school. 2003, Weigl Publishers Inc, Ages 8 to 12.
