This is an excellent set overall, with very strong performances of the Sixth and Seventh Sonatas. The Eighth Sonata is not as well done, however - Raekallio adopts too quick a tempo and does not fully convey the opening movement's mysteriousness. For the Eighth Sonata I recommend the Sviatoslav Richter recording on DG (combined with the Fifth Piano Concerto). Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
