Jay is a teenage witch vampire hunter who doesn’t really fit in with the other witches. Jay has a sidekick Lynx which he can talk to also. It could be because he has a habit of befriending vampires and even donating himself as a snack – a major death sentence should the witches find out. Acting alone, he decides to attend the Heathen Holiday Bash, held by Kendra the vampire empress, and before the night is out he is coming to the aid of two unsuspecting people that his kind shouldn’t be mingling with, a vampire with mental issues and a shapeshifter just lying on the forest floor. Being Jay, he just has to involve himself, but will this time cost him his life?
“‘Careful,’ Jay said. ‘There was anther power in her when I first found her. I’m not sure if it was hers, or someone else’s but it threw me out. Hard.’”
This is book nine in the Den of Shadows series and the only one I have read but I’m now dying to go back and read them all. This story pulled me in from page one and it was great to see a boy as a leading character who was more teen than responsible young adult, like so many authors do. Because of this, Jay will make a lot of poor choices but will meet some very interesting creatures. That is, if he can stay alive long enough. Pick up this book and find out for yourself what happens with Jay.
