Overview

Kathryn Shay combines her extensive research on the Secret Service with her vast experience in the high school classroom to create this powerhouse of a novel!

“A wonderful work of contemporary romance, with a plot ripped straight from the headlines. Kathryn Shay never disappoints.” NY Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner.

When by-the-book Secret Service Agent Joe Stonehouse and unpredictable Secret Service Agent Luke Ludzecky go under cover in a high school which has been flagged by their School Threat Assessment Team as having the potential for violence, they expect their differences will cause them conflict. What they don’t expect are the two women who blow their careful plan apart. Suzanna Quinn is the principal and hates being attracted to the new school psychologist, and worse, thirty year old Social Studies teacher Kelsey Cunningham is horrified by her feelings for Luke, her new “student.” But the very real threat of school violence from more than one student forces them to work together and face their feelings for each other. Suicide, gang warfare and bullying all play a part as this stunning drama unfolds.

"Shay does an admirable job with a difficult subject, writing about school violence with sensitivity and realism and without shying away from any of the hard issues, such as the balance between the students' protection and their civil liberties." Shelley Mosley Booklist

Kathryn Shay’s storytelling grabbed me on page one and her characters held me until the very last word.” Barbara Bretton, USA bestselling author.

“Kathryn Shay is a master of her craft. PROMISES TO KEEP will hold you on the edge of your seat with an ending you’ll remember long after you turn the last page.” USA Today bestselling author Catherine Anderson.

"Kathryn Shay’s first mainstream romantic suspense is a gripping story that will haunt readers with its authenticity. And those who pick up a copy will find not one, but two absorbing romance threads, full of sensuality and fire. If ever the label of “sure thing” were deserved by a book, PROMISES TO KEEP is such a book.” The Romance Reader

“These are all living breathing people you might meet anywhere at any time. The action and suspense balance well with the love, so that neither plot is skimped upon. I eagerly await her next release.” Huntress Reviews

Editorial Reviews

RT Book Reviews
"Award-wining author Kathryn Shay hits the mainstream genre with this powerful and timely novel."
Dave Parker
"This is one of those books - once started - you don't want to put down!"
The Romance Reader
"Shay uses her own extensive background as a high-school teacher to create believable teenagers. Not all are sympathetic; not all will be saved. However, by sticking to this reality rather than trying to script an unrealistic happy ending for all, she delivers a drama that carries tremendous emotional impact. You’ll care about these kids. PROMISES TO KEEP is top-notch romantic suspense. Kathryn Shay adds another winner to her already impressive list of absorbing tales.
Amanda Kilgore
"A timely novel that is easy to identify with due to the relevance contained herein, it is a welcome addition to the shelves. Ms. Shay's talents are always finely displayed in the deep emotion her words evoke and her well thought out characters. These are all living breathing people you might meet anywhere at any time. The action and suspense balance well with the love, so that neither plot is skimped upon. I eagerly await her next release."
Tracy Vest
"Shay skillfully blends romance and intrigue with a ripped-from-the-headlines plot that she executes flawlessly. She has managed to tell a thought provoking story without shying away from hard issues."

    Wonderful!

Three years have passed since Secret Agent Joe Stonehouse's beloved niece was killed in a school shooting. Since then, he has been dedicated to stopping that kind of random violence. His latest assignment has him masquerading as a guidance counselor and the uncle of a troubled youth, who is another agent, in a high school. His mission is complicated when he meets the principal, Suzanna Quinn, an attractive single mom to whom he finds himself drawn, despite the complications such a romance would create. On top of that, his "nephew" has definitely more than student teacher relations in mind when he sees Kelsey, one of his teachers. As the two couples dance along the fine line between business and pleasure, a plot to have another Columbine is forming in their school. Romance could compromise the whole mission, and love between any of them could endanger not only the mission, but their hearts and careers as well. ***** A timely, current novel that is easy to identify with due to the relevance contained herein, it is a welcome addition to the shelves. Ms. Shay should have broken into the full length novel genre long ago. Her talents are always finely displayed in the deep emotion her words evoke and her well thought out characters. These are all living breathing people you might meet anywhere at any time. The action and suspense balance well with the love, so that neither plot is skimped upon. I eagerly await her next release. ***** REVIEWER: Amanda Killgore

    Highly recommend

Katherine Shay has a new fan. I enjoyed her style of writing. She does not disappoint. This book was especially moving in light of the school tragedy in Sandy Hook, CT in Dec 2012. I was very impressed by the information provided.

Loved the characters and enjoyed the plot line!

I loved this book. It had alot of plot information in the beginning, but definitely picked up. The plot was intriguing and the characters were believeable. The ending was of course storybook, but I wouldn't have it any other way!
