Charlottesville, Virginia, U.S.A. 2004 Hard Cover First Edition Fine in Fine jacket Craig Winn's controversial and inflammatory work, Prophet of Doom, begins with this ... statement: "Islam is a caustic blend of regurgitated paganism and twisted Bible stories. Muhammad, its lone prophet, conceived his religion solely to satiate his lust for power, sex, and money. He was a terrorist." Needless to say, the book is certain to offend Muslims for it disparages nearly every aspect of Islam. Winn attempts to deflect such criticism upfront by claiming that he is merely quoting the Qur'an and other Islamic texts and is therefore "just the messenger." Further, he claims that he is unconcerned about being offensive because his goal is to educate people about the root causes of terrorism and the inherent dangers of Islam in the same way that early translators of Mein Kampf tried to warn an unsuspecting world of Hitler's intentions. "If we don't shed our ignorance of Islam, many more will perish, " he writes. Admittedly, p Read more Show Less

    Meticulous research

On books such as this, most people are giving ratings based on their own emotions rather than the quality of the book. I confess, I 'm only about half way through this book. I'm being honest, Winn's research is immense. He makes one excellent point from the start, he does not quote out of context. His website lists all five translations of the Qu'ran in full. He produces his own time-line , he lists his sources and translations with painstaking diligence. As Winn rightly states, you don't have to take his word for it, you can pick up a copy of the Qu'ran and see for yourself. The truth of the matter is available for you to see and judge for yourself. You will be shocked, but you will be wiser. If you are curious, you can visit his web site (use any search engine) and see the sources used. Shocking are the numerous calls for violence and brutality in the Islamic text that are a thousandfold over any other conventional religious text. Don't take my word for it. See for yourself. Verify for yourself. Decide for yourself.

Islam - Religion of Hate and Intolerance

If you hate this book, you hate the Qur'an. All he does is put Islam's holy book and it's earliest writings about its sole prophet in chronoligical order. It is the most indepth, accurate, and useful book of Islam. For those that think he did this for profit, the book is free online. Just remember, the Qur'an tells Muslims to lie. That's why they are so mad when you start learning about their religion. The Truth will set you free. Try reading this book before you lambast it. Have the Qur'an handy when you do, so you can cross reference it. This book doesn't lie.

    Severely critical but true

This book is a very harsh critique of Muhammad and Islam. But all are documented facts. The author is presenting the life of Muhammad in a very organized and timely way. But althogh the author does not hide his christian background or his pride in the American higemony in the world, that does not say he is some how lying in his presentations.

THE TRUTH IN ALL ITS GLORY

This is an absolutely great read! The author presents the complete and disturbing truth about Muhammad and Islam, all from Islam's book, the Koran. Islam DOES NOT MEAN 'PEACE' as most of its followers claim. It means 'SUBMISSION' in Arabic. Submission to Allah (who is actually a pre-Islamic Arabian moon god) and to his followers the Muslims. Is it any wonder that the 'War on Terror' is against terrorists, all of whom are Muslims (Not all Muslims are terrorists but for these days all terrorists are Muslims). The reason why there are so many volunteer suicide bombers (whom I like to call homicide bombers, since their only mission is to kill people) is that that's their only guarantee of going to paradise and getting 72 virgins (no joke, it's in the Koran and the Hadith). I pray everyday to Jesus to save Muslims from Islam.

    God Help ME!!!!

Being a Muslim from Bangladesh, I was a skeptic when I started reading this book. My faith in Islam is SHAKEN!!!! I tried to match the Sura's from the book to the Holy Koran, and they match exactly as the author quoted. I no longer know what to believe in anymore. As a person who has lost his faith, I highly reccomend this book for its honesty and integrity.

The Truth and nothing but the truth

Very well researched and very accurate, the writer had used exact quotes from the Koran. You will really know more particulars about Islam that Muslims try to avoid talking about.

Absolute truth (from a man who was raised in Iran)

I am technically a muslim since I was born in Iran and have never officially changed or relinquished this religion. In reality, I despise it, as I have seen firsthand what it has done to my once great culture and nation. All this aside, I beg any potential reader to actually read a chapter of this book, verify it with the Quran (which is the main source used in the book), and then judge it. Every quote and story given in this book are absolute truths and can not be denied since they are in the Islamic scripture themselves. The fact that most 'devout' muslims simply deny this is further proof of how this religion of doom has brainwashed the so-called large population of followers (who happen to be among the poorest, least educated population of the world).

Excellent expose' of a violent religion

The book is an excellent, well researched explanation of Islamic beliefs based on their own 'holy book.' The previous reviewer obviously has not read the book because the author is is male--not a female as he states. I would suggest one read this book with an open mind and the desire to research further.

    prejudice and not intellecual

For a non-bias informative book on the prophet, read Muhammad by Martin Lings. It is a great, well-researched and scholarly book on the man that influenced the world. The prophet was a man of religious tolerance, integrity, decency and kindness. Read Muhammad by Martin Lings to discover the real man. Even more importantly, read the Quran (Koran) first to see for yourself rather than reading hate books like Prophet of Doom that is written by people who are not scholars on Islam. There are also Islamic books by John Esposito that are very good.

    Ask the Writer

This book contains lie after lie. I honestly wanted to learn more about Islam but didn't find anything more biased on the market. To learn the TRUE meaning of the Words of the GOD i recommend you dump this book in the furnace as a heretical view on Islam and turn to the QURAN to learn the true meaning of the religion. Everything in this book is biased against Islam. True hardline facts are in the Quran. People who say the Quran teaches the wrong stuff are wrong because the Quran includes the teachings of Jesus, parts of the bible and old testament. Those who say the Quran is wrong are saying that on a biased view point.

    Facts don't lie

This book could not be lies since the author gives the exact quotes from the koran, hadiths, Tabari, etc. It shows the inconsistencies that are apparent when one reads the koran, and gives the history of the prophet in the words of those who knew him and which Muslims use to glorify him. The book is very long and detailed, and that's my only fault with it. I've listed another book that is very short and concise, but focused on only one aspect of Islam, whereas Winn's book focuses on all of Islam.

    Ridiculous

It's a shame this book was even published. Each page consists of lies, lie after lie. I suggest you read it if you're one of those people that likes to waste your time on nonsense, but I doubt anyone wants that. If you want the truth, read the Qura'an instead, not this pathetic attempt at putting down a world-wide religion, which 20% of the worlds population believes in. I myself am not Muslim, but I think it's cruel and harsh and retarded to put a book out there that is so derogatory towards this religion. What if one were to publish attempting to insult Christianity, I am quite sure it wouldn't be published or read by anyone in their right minds. It's sad what this world has come to, and it will be the bane of us all.

    More propoganda against Islam

Why don't people understand the only purpose of such books is to distort Islam's image? Read the book I've listed below for a more accurate biography of the prophet.
