Overview

No one knows Provence like beloved author Peter Mayle, and in this delightful collection—adapted from Provence A-Z: A Francophile’s Essential Handbook—he distills his decades of living in France into ten essential lessons for visitors. Abandoning the well-trodden “best of” routes that can be found in any tourist guide, Mayle highlights local features vital to an authentic Provençal experience. From ruminations on the unique charms of each season to the art of the siesta, Mayle brings the warmth and beauty of the province vividly to life. And, of course, food and wine also get their due, as Mayle expounds the merits of pastis and a good rosé, explores the mystery of traditional market shopping, and more. Evocative and intimate, Provence in Ten Easy Lessons is charming yet practical reading for ticketed passengers and armchair travelers, alike.

Peter Mayle has written quite a few books, Fiction and Non-fiction, about the place we know as Provence. This new book is as close as you'll ever get to knowing all about this magical place. Wonderful writing and fantastic pictures this is a great book to read just like one of his novels. Funny and much, much more than an encyclopedia Mayle makes you feel you are there. Just like a good writer should.

I had read this book and several others by this author and I enjoyed them. I bought 2 copies of this book for presents this year. It makes you want to visit Provence! I found that I was tabbing pages of places I wanted to see.

Excerpts from a complete work. May seem like a value till you realize you only bought a chapter.

If you have not yet discovered the joys of Peter Mayle's books, this is a short but sweet way to sample the author at his best. For dedicated fans, another offering in typical hysterical-but-understated Mayle style. I can never get enough of his books, and unrealistically wish he could write 10 new books every year!! Thanks again Peter. You're the best. : )

There is no better read than Peter Mayle's books about France. As the daughter of a French woman, I still get great laughs from the joke he told in "A Year in Provence." I really liked this book and can't wait for the next one!
