Library Journal - Library Journal
This bilingual study manual, audio CD, and flashcard package is designed to prepare immigrants for the U.S. citizenship exam and interview. The manual features 100 sample questions on the history and government of the United States; key words and sentences that determine the immigrant's ability to speak, read, and write basic English; and a question-by-question review of the information required to complete the Application for Naturalization Form N-400. An updated insert includes the names of the capitals and elected governors and senators of each of the 50 states. The manual also describes what to expect during the interview and offers study tips to help students prepare for the exam. The audio CD reviews all the questions in the manual in both English and Spanish with a strong and clear pronunciation, and no obvious regional accent. The package of bilingual flashcards features questions and answers about basic U.S. history and politics, as well as issues like racial discrimination, criminal past, and political allegiance. Rather than a technical publication about immigration laws, procedures, and policies this is a handy, simple, and fun tool for those preparing to become U.S. citizens. Although there are many immigration and naturalization guides available (e.g., Citizenship Made Simple, Next Decade, 1999), few are updated and bilingual, or include audio and visual aids. Highly recommended for all public libraries and bookstores. Yolanda Cuesta, Sacramento, CA Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
