Children's Literature - Mary Quattlebaum
Artist Tim Ladwig provides a thought-provoking contemporary interpretation of familiar words in Psalm Twenty-Three. A young boy and girl are followed for a day as they leave the home of loving grandparents and move through their tough neighborhood, which is filled with childhood pleasures, reflective moments and danger. During the whole, they are watched over by their Good Shepherd as well as by the protective adults around them. A beautiful book.
Children's Literature - Dr. Judy Rowen
The familiar words of the 23rd Psalm are accompanied by paintings of two young children going through their typical day in an urban environment. "He makes me lie down in green pastures" becomes a joyful interlude rolling down a hill in a city park, whereas "the valley of the shadow of death" is a graffiti and garbage strewn street haunted by gang members. A thought-provoking reminder that the words of the psalmist, though thousands of years old, apply to all of God's creation. Originally published in 1993, the book has been redesigned while retaining the original artwork.
