My name is Orlando Mergal. I'm a landscape photographer, a professional writer and an all-around communications expert. And I've been doing this for a very long time.

But you know what I've been doing even longer? Living in Puerto Rico. My parents moved back to the Island in 1963 when I was only 9 years old. So I've lived most of my life in Puerto Rico. More importantly, I love to explore the Island. Especially its beaches.

Most people think of Puerto Rico as an Island. But actually it's not. It's an archipelago. That means that it's comprised of the main Island and several smaller islands to the east, south and west. In spite of this confusion there's one thing that's crystal clear. We're surrounded by water! And that means beaches... lots of great beaches.

Many of Puerto Rico's beaches consistently rank among the best in the world in publications like Condé Nast Traveler, TripAdvisor and The Travel Channel. But most importantly many of these beaches are only a few miles away from the Island's popular tourist spots. And guess what? They're all free!

That's right! In Puerto Rico every single beach belongs to the people. It's even in the Island's constitution. So in many cases the only thing you'll be paying for is parking.
