A must-read for anyone expecting to live through the next ten years with the Internet. Siegel does a fascinating job of spelling out the end of the information age as we know it. An eye-opening outline of our future.

As the CEO of a small company, I found the concepts behind Pull to be fascinating. I think we're in for a lot of changes in the next few years, and while Pull doesn't cover everything (no book can), I found this to be one of the most thought-provoking books I've come across in the last 10 years. The search and marketing chapters alone are worth the price, but what really got me thinking was the notion that we can truly control our own destinies when it comes to information. For example, online birth certificates for all products and services make complete sense--I can see the value to consumers and manufacturers. I'll admit that I'm not doing something tomorrow about all of this, but thinking about it helps me guide my business as we refine our online strategy. From Siegel's website, I learned that retailers are already using semantics to improve search results, which helps them sell more products. I love that Siegel combines broad overviews of the future with tangible examples that I can use to affect my day-to-day business.

Siegel deserves great credit for getting his arms around the vast scope and depth of change that is currently underway in how humans interact with data and tying it together into a compelling vision that one can start to prepare for in a practical and strategic manner.
The biggest obstacle to realizing the promise of the Semantic Web has been how to achieve the scale necessary to create the network effects that will sustain ongoing mainstream adoption. Through many detailed case studies, Siegel shows a path.
One such encouraging story he tells is that of the application of open data standards to the domain of financial accounting (XBRL). What started as one accountant's quixiotic project rapidly exploded into a worldwide revolution for how a major business function is performed by Fortune 500 companies. This is a powerful lesson of how impactful the Semantic Web can be when a few committed leaders - whether by title or simply by action - across an industry come together to work on solving important real world problems.
One of the few things I disagree with is that some of the Siegel's predictions may occur even sooner! If 2010 does turn out to be the tipping point, several years from now we may all be looking back at "Pull" as not just a great book but a work of true historical significance.

Finally someone has put down in clear language what we can expect for the future in a way that resonates personally as well as professionally. This book is like a road map of where we are headed for organizing and transferring data - and how it will change how we think about the data we have in our lives. Loved the chapters on marketing and health. The must read chapter is The Big Step - which is a checklist of what you need to succeed. This is complex stuff but David has a clear, concise writing style that pulls (pun intended) you in as he unravels the knot of why we need to make these steps, what will be affected, and how it will work. The semantic web is coming - this book will get you ready for it!

This is a great book for anyone interested in the semantic web. Like the other Siegel books this is ahead of it's time and extremely relevant.

As a startup founder selling products into the enterprise, I got a lot out of this book. People talk about the semantic web but don't know what it is. Now I have a clear idea about many of the changes coming, and even if all of the predictions Siegel makes in this book don't come true it's still a guiding light to steer by. I enjoyed his previous book and find this his most insightful and meaningful, as we are living in times when information counts more than ever. From finance to health care to tax reform and many other interesting topics, this book has new ideas that make sense. And pulling information is a great way to frame it - we all need to start thinking about that right now.

First of all, I would like to acknowledge the courage of David Siegel to write a business book on a difficult topic like this. The book is about the power of Semantic Web to transform your business and is meant for business managers and enterpreneurs. It is not easy to write a "business book" on a topic like Semantic Web which has more sceptics than believers. In general, I have found that most of the good business books are more about analyzing the past and there are very few which are visionary or predict the future. In this complex world, it is so hard to see the future even beyond five years from now! So don't expect perfection! David makes a very good attempt in this direction.
This is a thought provoking book which you should read with an open mind. It will definetely make you think! Without giving away too much about this book, I just want you to know that I really enjoyed reading it. It is a passionate work by someone who has put two years of life writing about a subject he believes in. The level of effort he has put in research also shows. Apart from that, this book is value for money. A real bargain! I will recommend all of you to read it.

What I really like about Pull is that not only does Siegel explain the Next Big Thing, but he shows us exactly how it will benefit us in dozens of different domains. So unlike some other books, this is not pie-in-the-sky stuff. It is all very real, under development, test and deployment right now, and very accessible. (I just read about Cisco now using its entire 45,000 staff as an alpha for its healthcare systems - systems straight out of Pull!) It's a fun read if you want a glimpse of how you are in fact going to live in the not too distant future.
It never occurred to your grandparents that they would ever own two cars. It never occurred to your parents that they would carry mobile phones everywhere. It never occurred to us that nearly every room would have a computer in it. Now Pull shows you an engaging and enormously useful set of tools for the future. For entrepreneurs, it's a heads-up. For the rest of us, it's a well written, worthwhile book.
