Pumpkins has a simple and clear story line easy to read and understand by the ages for which it was written. By allowing the man in the story to 'talk' to the field it teaches children to think of ways to solve problems. It shows a good 'work ethic' and the final results coming from it. The sense of exaggeration in the story makes it more fun and exciting and memorable and gives it a 'WOW' factor. By naming places around the world the children may not have heard of, it gives them a reason for looking at a globe for place and for seeing that a good small thought can grow to cover a lot of ground. The non-replacement of paintings and watch teaches reliance on a more simplistic lifestyle. Giving the second set of seeds away teaches sharing and a sense of community. Wonderful book and beautiful illustrations! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I got this book for my children who love to read. This is what they read. A guy lives across from a field that's for sale. He can't afford to buy the field. He wants to keep the field from being developed, so he decides it's OK to USE the field to make money 'he doesn't own it!' by growing pumpkins in it. This way, he can buy the field and keep it from being developed. I know it's a kids book, but come on... what are trying to teach the kids? How about the field owner? Does he/she get a say?Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

If you are looking for a heart warming story with a great message for the fall, this is it! There are so many new monster books out this fall and they are all pretty much the same. "Pumpkins" lets the story relate its message about our need to protect the land and is never preachy or sappy. The beautiful illustrations fit the story perfectly. Its wonderful!!!Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
