Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"This comprehensive labor of love will be useful to any host. An affordable and valuable niche filler. Recommended." --Library Journal

Library Journal
Along with recipes for a great variety of punches, Searing, a partner at Room 11 in Washington, DC, and the founder of the DC Craft Bartender Guild, includes a history of punch, with lush color illustrations and descriptions of antique punch bowls. According to Searing, punch is "the ultimate drink to serve at a party," and the art of making punch is akin to baking. There are five essential elements in a good punch: sweet, sour, water, spice, and alcohol. Instructions for making variations of simple syrup, what fruits and flowers are best suited to different types of punch, how to steep tea as a base, how much to make for different sized crowds—all this is included in infinitely appealing language. Illustrations guide readers to the perfect result. There are recipes for rum, whiskey, brandy, gin, wine, champagne, milk, and tea punches. Most but not all of the beverages call for alcohol. VERDICT This comprehensive labor of love will be useful to any host. An affordable and valuable niche filler. Recommended.—Elizabeth Rogers, CEF Lib. Syst., Plattsburgh, NY
