Overview

‘Punished’ is the inspiring true story of an unusual little girl, Vanessa, whose childhood was devastated by torture and abuse at the hands of her sadistic mother. Vanessa was nearly destroyed until she discovered a secret that ultimately saved her life. From the age of 3, Vanessa lived in daily terror of her mother's unpredictable rage. If she was 'naughty', her mother would lash out at her – with beatings, torture, starvation and making Vanessa sleep in their garden's pigsty, tied up like an animal. Her mother said her punishments were God's revenge on her for being the devil's child. Her father lived in denial of her suffering. When she was 6 years old, Vanessa's grandfather began to sexually abuse her – to her despair, aided and abetted by both her mother and grandmother. At eight years old, she then discovered that the 'mother' who hated her so much had adopted her as a baby and would never love her as her own.At the most horrific times of Vanessa's abuse, she nearly lost all hope that she would escape her prison, until mysterious things started to happen to her that allowed her to fight back. This is the story of how Vanessa survived a childhood that nearly destroyed her and how her secret led her out of the horrors of her past.

There are people in the world like Vanessa's evil step mother, and their victims all too often cover up the horror and dread they face each day, fearing an even greater punishment if they tell anyone. And worse, when they do break their silence, they are not believed by the very people who should protect them. I'm glad Vanessa found happiness at last, although she did take care of her insane step mother til the end and even facing death, this crazy evil woman would not give Vanessa the answers she sought. This book is a testament to the will of the human spirit to survive. Most of my reading was done with tear-filled eyes, a very heavy and broken heart, and a sickening feeling. Unfortunately, I found the book to be very similar to my upbringing (mother and grand-father), which has given me a stronger sense to be gentler, more patient, and more attentive to my children -- as this is the absolute worst life that any child could possibly live through. I am speechless in my prayers and wishes for Vanessa who survived her horrible upbringing, but still managed to muster through and never once gave up hope. Bless you and may God forever take great care of you and reserve a special pair of golden wings for you.I love reading true stories but this is one that is so riveting and unbelievable. The tortures that this child went through were horrendous and yet the author was matter of fact about the abuse she suffered and made sure to include how her life has thrived and that she was able to put all that happened aside to raise a healthy family. Highly recommend the read.

early chapters most disturbing ...but the spiritual element aided me to refrain from putting the book down. and as i hoped in early reading there was light at the end of the tunnel. inspiring lady to recount in an honest way of her ordeal. she should never have endured such horrific abuse. this book well help those of us in life who have experienced unfortuante childhoods....Thankyou vanessa and im so proud of you for who you are today ...a maternal soul. loving your children albeit their grown up, just the way a mother should love her children. i love you and may your dear brother nigel as he is in spirit always be with you. warm regards krissi x

Very well written book showing we never know how the family next door live. It was a very heart wrenching look into a stolen life of an innocent child. Only shows you can take dire circumstances and turn them around. Glad God gave her the strength to survive and make something of her life.

You have to have a stomach of steel to read this book. The abuse that takes place is disgusting, nauseating, and just plain evil. There some interesting things that happen in this story revolving around auras and the such but I won't say more.

This book is inspirational. To see what somebody actually truly went through at the hand of abuse. Very graffic. My heart goes out to her. She is a very strong woman.
