Meet the Author

Robert A. Heinlein was the greatest science fiction writer who ever lived. His novels have been translated into every literate language on the globe—over 25 million Heinlein books are in print in this country alone. For five decades, young readers of science fiction discovered Heinlein, then gone on to voraciously devour every Heinlein book they can get their hands on. His now-legendary Stranger in a Strange Land was the first hardcover bestseller by a science fiction writer. From 1975 on, every new Heinlein novel made the New York Times best-seller list and shipped a million copies, including The Number of the Beast, Friday, Job: A Comedy of Justice, The Cat Who Walks Through Walls, and To Sail Beyond the Sunset. In a career spanning half a century, he wrote over forty books, and four of his novels won Hugo Awards, an unequalled record for almost four decades. For the last three generations of readers, Heinlein is science fiction.

Vintage Heinlein. I first read this book 40 years ago and many times since. It opperates on many levels: first as straight adventure story but also as an alllegory of the cold war ((Heinlein's goal) don't tthink its dated:: it means us too. As long as there are totaletarion governents and managed media it means us too.

I'll be honest: I read this book a long time ago, I think around 8-10 years ago, but I do remember thinking it was a great book. I loved the creativity of the author, and his writing style was very quick and easy to follow. I heard Starship Troopers was another one of his greats, so I plan on reading that one day.

I was also shocked that this piece of work was not published at some point during my life. It is a great read, very intense and packed with action. Sometimes I wonder if slugs aren't attached to the zombies I walk by on the streets.

This was the first Heinlan book that I have read and I really enjoyed it. Anyone looking for a crazy story of aliens and surprises should read this.
