Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
Basic information about puppies and kittens is presented in an attractive format. After an introduction referring to these animals as perfect pets, newborn puppies with their mothers and litter mates are described. Common puppy traits and ways of communicating are shown next. This same information about kittens follows. Appropriate ways to play with these pets and the need for training help children understand some of the responsibilities associated with having animals in the household. A double-page spread shows twenty breeds of puppies. The turn of the page presents seventeen different types of kittens. A connection to the larger animal kingdom is presented in relating dogs to wolves and wild dogs. Cats are related to tigers, leopards, and lions. The heavy-duty cardboard pages are filled with photographs of puppies and kittens at their cutest. Includes a table of contents, a glossary, and an index. Directions for downloading a free digital book with additional information and activities are included. A good resource for young children in the process of acquiring a pet. Part of the "Discover More" series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
