Children's Literature - Children's Literature
This two-part book features Facts and Fun. The Facts part provides basic information about dogs in a question and answer format. Topics touched upon are kinds of dogs, the relationship of wild dogs to domestic dogs, what puppies eat, how puppies talk, when puppies grow up, and what puppies need to learn. Then the big question is asked, "Are you ready to take care of a puppy?" These pages are profusely illustrated with full-color photographs of a wide variety of dog breeds. The last third of the book offers detailed directions for five craft projects--a Dalmation pencil bag, a Cocker Spaniel puppet, a Collie family portrait, a Dachshund race, and a Yorkshire Terrier mask. Materials needed, specific steps, and numerous photographs are provided. These materials are not generally found in most households and the steps for completion are quite complicated, so adults would need to be actively involved in these art projects. Part of the "Animal Baby Series." 2000, Barron's, Ages 5 to 8, $5.95. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer—Children's Literature
