School Library Journal - School Library JournalGr 4-8 Written from Aviva's viewpoint, Puppy Love is about Aviva and her new puppy, her eighth-grade crush on a high-school boy, her friendship with a classmate who acts tough but has a soft heart and, most of all, her adjustments to the complicated family arrangements that divorce and remarriage can bring. Betancourt creates believable family relationships, realistic growing pains, and adds an untrained puppy for fun. There is an overuse of colons in the writing, which becomes irritating, but overall the book is one that children will enjoy. Mavis D. Arizzi, Jay School Corporation, Portland, Ind.
