Mudge loves his blanket, one of the two two-syllable words in this very easy to read book. He sleeps on it, takes it places, and most importantly, he sleeps on it. But Mudge loses his blanket and searches the house. Finally, he sniffs (and sniffs and sniffs) his way to the car. Now he can rest. With the same precision of her longer stories in the "Henry and Mudge" series, Rylant has captured a small detail and made a good story out of it. Mones uses full color with fewer details and artistry than the original illustrator, Stevenson, but the books look coherent with the older series. Young readers will find this a charming introduction and a read-again challenge while the pleasant repetition of certain key words, such as blanket and under rewards hard reading work, plus the short punchy sentences will provide success for novice readers. 2004, Simon & Schuster, Ages 3 to 6.

Suçie Stevenson is the acclaimed author and illustrator of more than fifty books for children and is best known as the illustrator of the popular Henry and Mudge books by Cynthia Rylant. She lives on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, with her little cocker spaniel, Gracie.

Isidre Mones is a Spanish artist best known for his comic book work. In addition to illustrating Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 3, he has also illustrated several of Cynthia Rylant’s Henry and Mudge stories.
