Overview

Pure Ella: The Very Best of Ella Fitzgerald is an excellent 18-track collection that features many of her best recordings, which also happen to be among her most popular, including "A-Tisket, A-Tasket," "They Can't Take That Away from Me," "Night and Day," "My Funny Valentine," "Take the 'A' Train," "How High the Moon," "All the Things You Are," and "Oh, Lady Be Good." There are collaborations with Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Paul Smith, and Louis Armstrong on the collection, making it a good overview of her extraordinary range. Serious Fitzgerald fans, collectors, and historians will already have all this material, but this disc nevertheless functions as an excellent sampler for the curious and for neophytes.

I loved 16 of the 18 songs listed here. She has such a beautiful voice. There are also a lot of classic songs here. Anyway, I didn't like "They Can't Take That Away from Me," because her voice was way too deep on that one for me. Maybe she was older when she recorded it. I also didn't care for the last song. But the other 16 songs were just beautiful. Play all of the samples listed here and you'll love that beautiful voice of hers.

This is so good. There are so many hits here. I don't care for scatting, but she only scats on five songs. Anyway, she has the best voice of a female artist ever. The sound quality is incredible on every song. This is now one of my favorite CDs. Play the samples.
