Decent overviews of the asset management business are pretty thin on the ground. This book, although by no means the final word on the subject, is something else. It's by far the best guide as to how all the 'pieces' of the asset management business fit together (advisory, trading, back office, regulators etc). The first five chapters or so are, in my humble opinion, the most useful. You get a history of the mutual fund business and how most funds operate today (find out where your management fees go!). The middle half of the book is a bit of a chore (unless Back Office issues are your cup of tea). However, the author redeems himself with some 'what next' chapters at the end. All in all, by far the best book on the industry. Best of all, it's well presented and up to date (unlike that convoluted mess 'The Mutual Fund Business'...avoid that one!).Was this review helpful?
