About the Author

Shalight Saja is a fighter and chooses to be defined as such. She is an eighteen-year-old survivor of years of physical, emotional, and sexual assault by a familial same-sex perpetrator. Yet she has been blessed by a Father who loves her, friends who support her, and pens lying atop blank paper.
Shalight began writing as an outlet for venting at age twelve. As her understanding of what was happening deepened, so did her love for poetry. Venting became vocalizing, and writing became her tool to explain to herself and others what she has experienced.
Her writings on violence and what it leaves behind are compiled in Purple Eyes.
