More About This Book

Overview

This classic was written during a train trip from Chicago to McAllen, Texas, in the late 1940s. Tozer wrote all night, the words coming to him as fast as he could put them down. Good spiritual study aid

Tozer is relevant even today because he speaks the truth of God's word. "The Pursuit of God" is deep and thought provoking. It is worth a read. It isn't very long and if you break it up by reading one chapter a day you will find it a wonderful supplement to a daily devotional.

If you're wondering if God can be personally known, this is a must! One chapter a day, easy to do. All that is required is an open & honest mind. You don't have to check your brain at the door.

The title, "Pursuit of God", is misleading. It is actually God who pursues us while we search for Him! This book shares the fact that God is relational. He made us relational beings. God wants a relationship with us, but there are so many distractions and white noises around us that we must pursue Him by getting rid of the noises. Then we can hear Him and personally know Him. This book does not require you to turn your brain off. Rather it encourages you to use your intellect and your heart and explore how to enter into a relationship with God. This book is a must read for the sincere and guileless person.

    Excellent Book

Tozer was most-known for this particular book, and I can see why. It was clear and easy to read and understand. He helped me to see ways to have a relationship with Christ, or improve the one I currently have. I ordered another of his books, and it is very good, also.

    Great!

This was a great book! Really opened my eyes to some things and really spoke to me! One of my now favorite quotations is from this book: "Faith is the gaze of a soul upon a saving God." Love that! It serves as a good devotional side read along side your Bible reading. Every 2 or 3 days, after some Bible reading, I would read a chapter in this book, and then reflect upon what it said. I do think that I will go back through this book again down the road, to refresh myself on it. I look forward to possibly checking out more by A.W. Tozer in the future. Check this book out! It's a really good side guide for your faith!

    Wonderful

This book was such a wonderful blessing to read. It was just what I needed, as I have been longing for more of the Lord in my life. It was by far better than what I expected.

INCREDIBLE! For everyone, but not the week-kneed!

    This book was absolutely incredible!
One of the reasons it was so incredible is because it whooped my butt on several occasions! Just when you think you're doing "ok" or "good" you need to do a self-check - this book helped me do that, I look forward to reading it again and again.

    Tozer's Totally Tweetable

A.W. Tozer's wordsmithing, theology and penetrating barbs into modern culture are still as relevant today as they were 50 to 80 years ago when he was alive and writing. Every time I read this book I shocked into repentance of my shallow slavery commitments to Christ and just scratch my head as he continues to peg our culture long after his death. It seems that every other sentence that Tozer wrote needs to be tweeted. @TozerAW has beat us all to it and is worth following on Twitter.
I thought that any review of the Tweetable Tozer would be remiss without some solid tweetable tweets.
"The man who has God for his treasure has all things in One."
"There is within the human heart a tough, fibrous root of fallen life whose nature is to possess, always to possess."
"The pronouns, my and mine look innocent enough in print...they are verbal symptoms of our deep disease."
"Whoever defends himself will have himself for his defense, and he will have no other.
"But let him come defenseless before the Lord and he will have for his defender no less than God Himself."
I could go on since the above quotes are just from the first 30 pages of the book. Plain and simple: this is a must read, a must own, and a must read yearly kind of book.

    wonderful reading...

The book has clear insight into what it takes for a person to follow closely and seriously after God. Tozer will tell the reader things that he/she needs to do in order to better follow God like he knows you personally. The things he writes about are amazingly simple yet profound, and most importantly, undeniably applicable.
