The vivid illustrations cover a period of some 30 years, as a pyramid undergoes successive stages of construction, finally serving as a pharaoh’s tomb. Final illustrations bring the story forward to the present day. The pyramid is now a site visited by tourists and archaeologists.

Original pictorial treatments of places and events in history make these books as entertaining as they are informative for young readers. Each title covers a single theme with a series of time-sequence illustrations that show how one location has changed over the course of history. Each illustration covers a large two-page spread. Tabs on page edges provide identifying historical dates for each picture, and have labels to explain details in the illustration. A Glossary at the back of each book defines relevant terms.

Part of the Fast Forward series, which uses tabs on the right-hand border to allow readers to skip ahead or back in time, Dinosaur by Nicholas Harris, illus. by Peter David Scott, chronicles the life, death and enduring legacy of a Mamenchisaurus, from its beginnings in China, 160 million years ago to today, with its skeleton on display in a museum. Pyramid, illus. by Peter Dennis, tracks the architectural feat accomplished in Egypt from 2700 B.C. to 2480 B.C. and images of the pyramid still standing today. Imagine being able to travel through time, being able to see a pyramid built and a civilization rise and fall. With this book you can do just that. The creators of this volume have carefully gathered material about the possible construction of a pyramid, with much attention being given to detail. You can also see some of the more personal and private events in people's lives, the amusing things that can happen to them, and follow the changes that take place in the country. You can watch a pharaoh being prepared for burial and examine a battle in progress. Tabs on the side of the book move the reader forward in time towards the present day. It can be hundreds of years between tabs or a few hours. An enormous amount of information is provided to the reader in a fascinating, beautiful and a palatable way. There is so much to look at on each page that this is a book readers will come back to again and again. In the back of the book there is a glossary and an index. Readers can find Castle, Shipwreck, Volcano, Wild West and Dinosaur in the "Fast Forward" series. 2003, Barron's Educational Series Ltd,
