Prima di morire, infatti, Kent le aveva spedito una serie di antichissime mappe e un biglietto con una lunga serie di numeri preceduti dalla scritta «Se non dovessi ritornare...». Una sola cosa è certa: il messaggio cifrato allude a un antico codice che protegge un prezioso segreto custodito dagli ancestrali sacerdoti del Sole nel ventre oscuro delle piramidi. Catherine è costretta a mettersi in viaggio dall’Inghilterra al Perù e dal Perù all’Egitto. E mentre una setta criminale si lancia al suo inseguimento, il misterioso messaggio di Kent conduce la studiosa sulle tracce di una spaventosa profezia: decifrare il codice, a questo punto, non le servirà soltanto a salvarsi la vita.
