This is a great introductory book for Python scripting. Each concept has about two pages with a command\function reference, explanation of what’s going on, and an example script. All the scripts were quickly reproducible and worked (which is a first for any programming book I’ve used up till now). I’ve had previous programming experience, but not recently, and I think those in the same boat will like this text because it works as a reference as well as a trainer. One can quickly go to a section look up how a command is being use and see the correct syntax, and move on, unlike some texts that bury the syntax in pages of minutia. Finally, I liked the associated applications that McGrath included in the book; they’re free and very useful. PyScripter was great for the creation and running of the scripts without having to go in and out of files with every example. Cx-freeze will help me take my own Python scripts and make them into deployable applications at work. So, if you’re interested in learning Python scripting and want a place to start, this book is good, inexpensive start.
