    A Major Disappointment

I don't like to give bad reviews, but this book doesn't earn a place on the average science fan's bookshelf. The goal is admirable -- to simplify and summarize quantum mechanics for the average reader with an algebraic or calculus background. Topics such as Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle and others however, are so briefly summarized to be unhelpful. I suspect the author was under serious pressure to condense, compress and compact. This book was a great disappointment, but reaffirms better choices for the reader, especially Quantum Mechanics Demystified and for a great illustrated book Hey's Quantum Universe.

Be aware that this book appears to be intended as supplementary

Be aware that this book appears to be intended as supplementary material for students taking a course in
quantum mechanics. For others, the math background needed to understand this book is a bit more than what the introduction in this book claims. The reader should be familiar with solving differential equations, partial differential equations and have a working knowledge of linear algebra. Even with this background I found the material confusing. Steps in developing the concepts are missing, which would be fine if it were merely the mathematics that the reader was assumed to know, but some instances important physics concepts were lost. The book (the revised version) reads like material was deleted to fit the size desired by the publisher. Finally, do not buy the Nook version. I looked at this at a BN store on a 9-inch Nook HD+. The equations and there are a lot of them are so tiny that they are unreadable. Whatever was used to convert the book to the electronic nook format could not identify, of all things, the h-bar Planck's constant symbol presenting it as a box. If you already bought the nook version of this book you should be able to get your money back.
