Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Bruce Adelson
When Nick Lighter settled down to watch Monday Night Football one night, as he and his fellow Monday Night Football Club members did every week, little did he suspect that he would be transported from his sleeping bag to the center of a Denver Broncos' offensive huddle right in the middle of the game. By magic, Nick not only finds himself occupying the body of his favorite football player, Broncos' quarterback John Elway, he leads his team to victory with a last second touchdown pass. Nick's transference is powered by an old, itchy wool sweater willed to this 5th grade football fan by his late grandfather who played college football at a small college in Minnesota. Nick never believed his grandfather's stories that playing football meant hard work and dedication. NFL players, he learns through his Elway experience, don't just fall out of bed and score touchdowns. They work hard to become the top athletes they are. This book, licensed by the NFL, plugs ABC Television's Monday Night Football broadcasts as frequently as possible, regardless of the fact that most 5th graders, much less many adults, are unlikely to stay awake past midnight when most of these games end.
