Overview

No vacation. No benefits. And the only retirement is an early death.

With the closing of the Hellmouth and the awakening of hundreds of potential slayers, Buffy Summers thought she had overturned the Slayer's self-sacrifice and earned herself a much-deserved break. But the thrill of victory is short-lived. The Forces of Darkness are not ones to graciously accept defeat, and the collective rage unites disparate and powerful parties more eager than ever to reclaim dominance.

Willow's magickal distribution of the slayer essence left girls across the world discovering their latent power. Giles races to reorganize the now much-needed Watchers Council, and the Scoobies relocate to Europe. And there in Rome, Buffy is drawn to the Immortal — a charismatic, if inscrutable, figure. But then comes word that a number of the fresh slayers are being coerced to join an army of slayers — governed by the mysterious "Queen of the Slayers," an awesome evil determined to claim the intoxicating slayer essence for herself.

Xander is sent to Africa to learn more about the origin of the slayer essence. Instead, he returns to report that, alarmingly, there's not enough good in the world to counteract the overabundance of evil, and that the deciding apocalypse is drawing much too near. Alliances are formed and loyalties betrayed as it comes down to slayer versus slayer, leading to an ultimate battle of champions — from Buffy's past and present. And then an unimaginable gift arrives...

Not bad as people think it is

Well, first off i have to say im disappointed that alot of people thought this book was really bad but its really not. its actually really great and i loved reading it for the first time. It takes place after the series finale Chosen. Buffy and the gang go to Rome and actually meets with the Immortal, thinking that their battle with the First was the last battle they would ever fought. But they were wrong. Another battle was beginning to brew but this time almost every monster ever existed in the world was after the Chosen One, Buffy to extract revenge against her. Suddenly, a mysterious new evil comes and claims that she is the Queen Of The Slayers, actually turning Slayers against Buffy and joining the evil Queen. They soon discover that the balance of Good and Evil that was set by the Powers That Be is overwhelmed by what Evil has been spreading throughout the world. Without having enough Good left in the world , Buffy and the gang discover that they will be no match for the evil Queen. The plot is really great and im glad that someone decided to make a book after season 7. it takes place almost right away after Chosen. I recommend it to any Buffy fan who will think it'll be a great book.

    a disappointment

nancy holder did not live up to her reputation with this book. it was full of spelling errors and had a very disappointing end. the ending was what really ruined the book for me. the descriptions were bad and the whole book was a build-up to this moment and it was the shortest scene written in the book. another thing that i didn't like about this book was how some of the time it was very difficult to understand who was talking or thinking.

    Buffy Came Back Swinging!!!!

I absolutely lloovvee Buffy The Vamipre Slayer the tv show and ALL of the books. I thought Joss Whedon was a genius for making such a good show, to bad it had to end. This book would have made a great eighth season of Buffy and hopefully one day it will. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. I NEVER would have guessed the ending.

    Unsuspected ending......

I thought this was a great read. The core of the story was exciting and fresh while remaining true to each character and their personality. The story holds some wonderful surprises as well as a few shockers :) It made me long for the 'Scoobies' all over again. The only bad part of this book was that it had to end. I would like to see a 'Queen of the Slayers' part 2 in the future.

    Simon Spotlight Has No Editors!

This is not a bad book overall. But why does Simon Spotlight print these things up without checking them for typos? I really think they just took Nancy's computer disk and started cranking out copies. It feels funny reading a book that even its publisher didn't read. It will be fun in English class though; we're going to go through 'Queen' and correct all the errors. It'll take a while. And I'll get extra credit!
