More About This Textbook

Overview

An engaging series of essays, originally given at the International Institute for Secular Humanistic Judaism. The aim of the colloquium was to make available the results of recent archaeological work to a wider interested public, and specifically to bring science to bear on the early history of the Jewish people. Both Professors Finkelstein and Mazar take the view that archaeological evidence, the Bible and other Ancient Near Eastern sources all have their part to play in the study of Iron Age Israel, and the essays are concerned to promote this centrist view. The book is arranged broadly chronologically: each broad period of Israel's Iron Age is commented upon and analysed by each of the archaeologists, and a summary by Brian Schmidt aims to draw out key themes to aid the non-specialist reader.
